The Man Who Fell to Earth
Somewhere in the City
Tropical Snow

700 Movies!

The addition of these five movies pushes my list over 700! I've said it before, but I can't believe how many movies actually contained the World Trade Center in them. Nothing really remarkable about any of today's additions, except that each one of them was from before 9/11. Sorry, I've been sitting on them for a while without much free time to add them until today.

The Collectors
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

I stumbled upon The Collectors a while ago as a trailer on the VHS tape of another movie. Although mainly filmed in Canada for financial reasons, some scenes were filmed in New York City and show the World Trade Center towers.

I read the book Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close before seeing the movie. The book was confusing to read and I was disappointed in the ending. They left out a LOT in the movie, and it was still depressing. I think a lot of people might be angry about the fact that Hollywood is using fictional characters dying in 9/11 in their movies. I don't have a problem about it, but I don't have a loved one who did die on 9/11. I added a couple of the shots of the towers from the film that were included in the trailer. The rest will have to be added once it comes to DVD.

Beginners
A Little Help
Overboard

Beginners and A Little Help are both post 9/11 movies. Beginners uses photos to show what life was like in the past. A photo from Superman was used to show what movies were like and the shot just happens to also show the World Trade Center towers in it. A Little Help is set in 2001 and is about a boy who lies and tells his friends that his father died in 9/11. It has some shots of World Trade Center posters and an interesting shot of him having the towers painted on his back.

Thanks to daryll777 for suggesting Overboard a while back. I rewatched the movie and it does indeed have a shot of the New York City skyline with the World Trade Center towers in it.

Only 4 more movies until I reach 700. If you haven't seen the previews for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close coming out next year, go check it out because that will be added once I see the movie. I also just recently found a few other titles to investigate further. Stay tuned!

Don't Let Me Drown
Made for Each Other
A Taxi Driver in New York
The Thing Called Love

Four more titles to add, inching ever closer to 700 total on the site. Don't Let Me Drown is a post-9/11 movie with news footage. Made for Each Other is a very early WTC movie, made in 1971 with a beautiful skyline shot of New York. A Taxi Driver in New York is another wacky Italian movie with lots of World Trade Center shots, along with Dom Deluise dubbed in Italian playing twin police captains! The Thing Called Love is a western, right after the main character leaves New York City on a bus with the World Trade Center behind him.

Was You've Got Mail filmed in the WTC?
Last week the question was asked how you can tell if a movie was filmed INSIDE the World Trade center. Joanne had asked specifically about the movie You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. In one scene, Tom Hanks, Dabney Coleman and John Randolph are having a conversation in an office. Out the window, it appears that this office is quite high and you can see other buildings out the window. Could this scene have been filmed inside the WTC she wondered.

Over the years, I've learned a lot about the New York skyline as I've researched this site. I've done a lot of searching to learn more about the buildings and bridges of Manhattan and the other boroughs to help me figure out if the World Trade Center is in a particular movie. Even though I cannot identify any of the other buildings out the window in You've Got Mail, and I can't even tell which direction the window is even facing, I can tell you that it was not filmed in the World Trade Center.

It is actually very easy to tell if a movie was filmed inside the World Trade Center just by looking at the windows themselves. The twin towers were built with the supporting steel on the outside. This made the windows of the buildiings very narrow, only 18 inches wide. These were not the wide windows that you see in You've Got Mail. Here is a comparison between You've Got Mail and Three Days of the Condor which actually was filmed inside the World Trade Center.
